Stand Firm

(2 Chronicles 20:3ff NIV): “Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah … ‘We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you’ … ‘This is what the Lord says to you: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s … You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the deliverance the Lord will give you … Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld!”’”

“Inquire of Me” — You are correct in doing so. You have no power in yourself. Do not be fooled into thinking there is something you missed or left undone. The enemy would love to have you looking within yourself and living with the feeling that you are not okay. The enemy wants you to think there must be something wrong with you, or you would not be suffering like this. The enemy would convince you that you do not have enough faith, or you have an area of disobedience in your life that must be surrendered.

Remember, Job suffered when his friends tried to reason out why he was suffering. But it was because he was found righteous that I allowed Satan to buffet him.

Many unbelievers think, “If this is your God, I don’t want anything to do with Him.” It seems (only to your human eye, of course) as though Job’s suffering was purposeless. But I came to confound the wise. And time and time again people write books that try to put Me into a formula in which they make sense out of how I work.

The focus is not on you. The power is not in your doing. The power is in Me. Keep your eyes on Me; the battle is Mine. To you, the army is vast — you cannot see through it. But you will not have to fight this battle. Do not be discouraged. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance I will give you.

SCRIPTURE
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16)
